Louisville Police responding to "The Purge" threats/fliers.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Louisville Police say they're now investigating a teenager accused of starting "Purge" rumors in the city.
Police also say they did not see a higher crime rate around Louisville Friday night. They did, however, receive a high number of anonymous tips, most of which turned out to be unfounded.
A flier for a proposed "Purge" in Louisville got the attention of the FBI, local police departments, and even Jefferson County Public Schools.
In the movie "The Purge" and its sequel everyone in the nation is allowed to commit any crime for 12 hours with no ramifications.
The horror movie has been hit at the box office but recently a flier about a purge that's coming to the Louisville area Friday evening has become a real nightmare.
People on WKYT's Facebook page are asking if it's a hoax or something they should legitimately be concerned about while in Louisville.
The reaction is so large that police have gotten involved.
The Purge is a fictional movie that involves a government-sponsored night where no laws are in effect. Everything is legal, up to and including murder. It is supposed to be a twelve hour period in which people can commit any crimes they want to without fear of punishment. While the threat of the Louisville purge might involve some actual attempts at violence, whoever is planning on participating can rest assured that this night is not government sponsored, and absolutely no reprieves will be given to them. Police are not happy about the threats and plan on prosecuting anyone engaged in illegal activity to the fullest extent the law will allow.
