Yosemite Wildfire Forces Rescue Of Nearly 100 Park Visitors

Hot weather and shifting winds fanned the flames of a preexisting wildfire in the backcountry of Yosemite National Park on Sunday, prompting the helicopter evacuation of about 100 visitors. The evacuations included hikers who had climbed the park's well-known Half Dome peak, which rises about 5,000 feet above the valley below Others were airlifted from campgrounds and hiking trails as the fire unexpectedly grew and advanced toward populated parts of the park. The wildfire was ignited by lightning several weeks ago between Little Yosemite Valley and Half Dome, and had remained confined to remote corners of the park. http://on.mash.to/1lNCuEp http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ
