A hard-partying newspaper columnist is forced to trade her cocktails for counseling after ruining her sister's wedding in spectacular fashion. Gwen Cummings (Sandra Bullock) thinks she can breeze through her court-ordered rehab stint, but she soon clashes with her counselor and a motley crew of fellow patients, including a charming baseball player named Eddie (Viggo Mortensen). As the withdrawals set in and the walls come down, Gwen realizes that getting sober might actually be the easy part compared to facing the messy reality of her life.
