Thousands of horrifying Abu Ghraib photos may be declassified

The infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq may return to the spotlight if a judge grants a request to make 2,000 prisoner abuse photos public. U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein on Wednesday ruled that the government had not presented a case compelling enough to keep the photos classified. Government lawyers now have one appeal remaining, which must be completed by September 8th. The original photos from the facility leaked to the media in 2004 caused a major headache for the military and government, who suddenly had to answer for why the Iraqi prisoners were being taunted, tortured and inhumanely cared for. RT’s Lindsay France has more on the ruling and what comes next for the photos.
