Biden Could Be Senate Tiebreaker
We’ve been tracking this midterm election all year long, especially the important race for control of the Senate. It’s been a huge story, all year long. Every negative report knocking President Obama for failed foreign policy, immigration, or Obamacare means another chance for other parties to gain momentum against the Democrats. Obama’s declining popularity has been the main catalyst driving Democrats opposition. Republican supporters have been counting on this election as their chance to retake control of the Senate. If they can win at least 6 states, they will take the majority in both chambers of Congress. But, if they’re only able to capture 5 seats in the Senate, it will come down to a 50/50 split. It’s a rare occurrence, but it has happened a few times throughout history. It happened for just 17 days back in 2000, and the last time before that, it was 1953. In these rare cases, the power of the Senate Majority would be awarded to the office of the Vice President. Which, of course, would mean Joe Biden could wind up as the tie breaking vote in the Senate. Now, we might not actually know the final results of this midterm until early next year, as third party candidates could potentially keep some states from electing a majority winner, with over 50 percent of the vote. Either way, IF this midterm did somehow land on a tie, it could affect the 2016 Presidential Election. Biden is a top name in the 2016 White House rumor mill, and he’s always said he would love a chance to be the President. If he is required to be around DC for large portions of the next two years, that could pose a threat to his schedule, and tie him up from running an effective campaign. If Biden isn’t deadlocked in DC, many forecasters expect him to start campaigning around the country, starting early next year. Support Indymedia!
