BREAKING: 357 New Yorkers Now Under Active Ebola Monitoring
More Ebola news coming out of Manhattan. Now we’re learning health officials are TRIPLING the number of New Yorkers under active monitoring. It’s a renewed effort to find travelers arriving from West Africa who could still be in that 21-day incubation period. There are now over 350 people being watched for Ebola-like symptoms. Of course, fears about an Ebola outbreak in New York were amplified when Doctor Craig Spencer tested positive for the virus last month. Similar to Thomas Eric Duncan who died in a Dallas hospital, Spencer was transported to the hospital in New York by EMTs. Now, those health workers and people who treated Spencer or handled his blood samples are being watched. So far, none of them have shown any symptoms. As for Spencer himself, doctors just upgraded his condition from serious to stable earlier this week. Similar to past Ebola patients in America, Spencer received a blood transfusion from another patient who already recovered from Ebola: Nurse Nancy Writebol. Like Spencer, Writebol had spent time in West Africa, handling and treating infected patients. While the doctors and health officials in Africa struggle for ways to treat and prevent the spread of Ebola, President Obama wants to spend another 6.2 BILLION dollars, giving money to the Pentagon and the State Department, to fund their mission on Ebola in Africa and the US. For people who think the Ebola concerns were in the past, apparently New York City officials didn’t get the memo. Support Indymedia!
