12/02/2014 -- Helicopter Aerial view of NEW Hawaii Lava flow -- moving 1200ft. per day

December 2, 2014 -- A new lava flow has broken out three miles North of Apa Street in Pahoa, Hawaii. Full website post here: http://bit.ly/1zgCkaO _____ http://bit.ly/1HXv3m9 The USGS, and County of Hawaii are reporting the new flow is part of a fresh influx of lava from Pu'u' O'o crater approximately 2 weeks ago. The fresh lava flows are covering the previous hardened (inflated) lava rock from from September / October event. This new flow should carry on much quicker, now that the area it is traveling across has been covered in lava previously. No major vegetation, or land barriers in the way of the newest flow. Will have to wait over the next few days until a relative speed of this new flow can be determined. Heading in the general direction of the previous September / October flow, heading towards Pahoa, currently 3 miles North of Apa Street. ____ ____ Thanks to Earthspace103 for the daily updates on the Puna lava flow coming from Pu'u O'o crater, part of the Kilauea volcanic complex, currently spreading across the town of Pahoa, Hawaii.
