Iraqi Army, backed by Shia popular forces, retakes villages near Muqdadiyah

The Iraqi army backed by Shia volunteer forces continues its mop-up operations to purge the Diyala province of the ISIL terrorists. Fighting between the two sides has been largely centered in villages near Muqdadiyah, about 80 kilometers northeast of Baghdad. The area had been under the control of the Takfiri terrorists for months. Further south, Iraqi forces and Sunni tribes have managed to liberate 12 villages and towns in Mansouriya district, north of Baqubah. According to Iraqi officials, at least 30 Takfiris were killed there, and their vehicles and equipment confiscated. Right now a clean-up operation is underway to ensure a safe return for the displaced people.
