Security sources: Boko Haram captures Nigerian town of Monguno





Boko Haram Takfiri group is reportedly making gains in Nigeria’s northeastern regions as fierce clashes continue between the army and militants there. This, amid the visit of the US Secretary of State, John Kerry. According to security sources, the town of Monguno has fallen into the hands of the militant group. The town lies some125 kilometers north of the Borno State capital Maiduguri which is also under the terrorists' attacks. The military is reportedly carrying out airstrikes to repel Boko haram's assault on the city. Casualties have been reported from both warring sides. Amnesty International has voiced deep concern over possible civilian casualties in the war-hit regions. Meanwhile, John Kerry has arrived in Lagos for talks with President Jonathan and former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari who is the main opposition's candidate in the presidential race.
