Polar Vortex Redux? Bone-chilling Cold to Envelop Midwest, East Coast

So far, the winter of 2014-15 has not been particularly cold or snowy for much of the East Coast. In fact, the winter so far has been noteworthy for its frequent ups and downs, with wild swings from mild to cold conditions every few days.
