Source: http://bit.ly/1lHoSJV January 18, 2015 - Federal magistrate Carl Barbier has decided that slightly more than three million barrels of oil spilled into the ocean. That’s far lower than the government’s estimate of over four million barrels. Therefore, BP has been fined nearly 14 billion dollars. That’s also lower than the previous estimate of nearly 18 billion dollars. The actual figure will be set after Tuesday's trial where lawyers will determine the exact fine per barrel. The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill is considered the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of petroleum industry. The incident claimed 11 lives.
