The United States is using Ukraine as a “proxy state” to destabilize Russia, a “very risky policy” that is being implemented in other regions as well, a political analyst in Moscow says. The arming of Ukraine by the US “is a policy that is very dangerous because the United States is using Ukrainian lives as cannon gunpowder for the conflict against Russia,” said Andrew Korybko. “What you’re seeing is the United States using Ukraine as a proxy state for destabilizing Russia,” Korybko told Press TV on Wednesday. “But this policy isn’t new, in fact it’s just the Eastern European application of it,” he added. During his State of the Union speech on Tuesday, US President Barack Obama warned Russia about bullying other countries, expressing his country’s opposition to “Russian aggression” in Ukraine. Ties between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated over the crisis in Ukraine after pro-Western forces ousted the country’s president Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014. The US and its allies accuse Moscow of sending troops into eastern Ukraine in support of the pro-Russian forces. Moscow has long denied involvement in Ukraine's crisis. The US and the European Union have already imposed several rounds of sanctions on Russia, including visa bans and asset freezes. “All in all, this is a very risky policy, very dangerous but it’s not that surprising when one looks at the template the United States has established before, it’s basically a continuation of Cold War games into the 21st century,” Korybko concluded.
