A Florida man could spend up to five years in Emirati prison for complaining about his employer on Facebook and posting anti-Arab slurs, reports the Tampa Tribune. Police in Abu Dhabi arrested Ryan Pate, 30, when he returned to the UAE last month after spending several weeks in Tampa. “I just couldn’t register it in my head because as an American growing up in the United States, the First Amendment right is just ingrained in my brain,” Pate told The State. Pate, who was working as a helicopter mechanic for Global Aerospace Logistics, said he contacted his employer about recommendations from his doctor. According to his fiancee, Pate was diagnosed with a back condition that makes it difficult for him to perform physical labor. “Their response was heartless and upset Ryan deeply,” his fiancee, Jillian Cardoza, posted on Pate’s GoFundMe account. Pate criticized Global Aerospace Logistics on a Facebook group page. Pate’s lawyer has described the comments as “very offensive.” “It is embarrassing, and I never meant for this to happen,” Pate told the Tampa Tribune. “I let my emotions get the better of me.” Pate is currently out on bail and is due in court on March 17. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
