Israel bypasses Obama, asks Congress for additional $300mn for missile defense

Israeli officials have reportedly asked the US Congress for an additional aid to be used in their missile programs. The Israelis have requested for over 300 million dollars in the fiscal year beginning on first of October. This extra fund will be added to 158 million dollars proposed in the Obama administration's budget. Reports say due to differences over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at Congress, Israel has turned directly to Congress for the money. The US provides funds for Israel's missile weapons systems separately from the annual 3.1 billion dollars in military financing to purchase weapons from the US. In 2014, US lawmakers increased funding for Israel's Iron Dome missile system to 351-million dollars for the fiscal year 2015. It was 235-million dollars in the previous year.
