If she won’t tell us what happened, her old, trashed computer hard drive might. Disgraced IRS Director Lois Lerner is no longer a part of the Obama administration, after she was fired last year. Lerner’s exit from the IRS came after a massive scandal, targeting conservative groups around the country. What made matters worse, the prosecutors and investigators tried to get access to her email inbox, Lerner refused. When they forced her hand, Lerner said the emails were destroyed - lost forever. She said the entire division of the IRS suffered a massive hard drive crash, and those emails would never be recovered. Well, now, it appears they have been found by an IRS watchdog. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration told Congressional staffers, they uncovered the faulty hard drive, and while the data is still scrambled, they are working to recover all of the text from it’s original format. The lost emails happened between 2009 and 2011, the same time that the IRS was using unfair, and biased criteria to target and punish conservative groups seeking tax exempt status. It’s still unclear exactly what was shared in those 30 thousand emails, but from what we’re hearing, it won’t be a secret much longer. The Lois Lerner IRS scandal was one of the worst black eyes the Obama administration had, and it was a terrible PR mess, the White House assumed was long gone. If and when those emails are ever deciphered and pieced back together, the IRS scandal could be a story that haunts the remainder of President Barack Obama’s presidency.
