Washington Mayors Want Slice of Pot Revenue

WASHINGTON STATE—One-hundred Washington-State mayors are urging their state lawmakers to share recreational cannabis revenues to pay for local law enforcement and other costs related to legalizing pot. Washington voters, like those in Colorado, recently approved recreational marijuana. Alaska is looking at a similar measure. In a letter to Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and legislative leaders, the mayors wrote that cities will be responsible for enforcing the new pot law. Therefore, they told Inslee they feel they deserve part of the $190 million in new tax revenues the state expects to collect over the next four years. The mayors, who did not specify an amount, say they need their fair share to carry out duties. Those duties include overseeing permitting and policing what they called "drugged driving." http://bit.ly/OEmrcX Download your free Next News "Heroes & Villains" Poster here: http://bit.ly/KgbQD5 Donate USD: http://nnn.is/donate-dollars Donate BTC: http:/...

US Senator Asks For A Bitcoin Ban, But Don't Hold Your Breath

Many will tell you that Bitcoin stands on shaky legal ground. Senator Joe Manchin, however, believes it's outright dangerous, to the point that he has sent a letter to regulators asking them to ban the digital currency. Manchin says there's no regulation and Bitcoin's mix of anonymity and irreversibility is appealing to a shady crowd. The Senator believes that black markets and thieves operate with relative freedom. Manchin also points out that the digital cash is prone to both deflation and surprises that risk creating chaos, such as the recent shutdown of the Mt. Gox exchange. http://engt.co/1fJ5yqY http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Comcast founder calls Comcast a "Monopoly"

Time Warner and Comcast want to merge into one cable company, and many people are outraged, calling the deal a monopoly. Though the companies themselves want the deal to go through, Comcast founder and retired executive, Julian Brodksy, actually called Comcast a "natural monopoly" himself, during a recent keynote speech.
