Fugitive Nabbed After Taunting on Facebook

A suspect from Ohio learned a valuable lesson this week: Don't taunt authorities on social media, especially when you're a wanted man. 21-year-old Andrew Marcum jumped in and posted his two cents after authorities shared his picture on Facebook as a featured warrant of the week. The Butler County Sheriff's Office posted in a message that allegations against the Lemon Township resident included burglary, kidnapping, domestic violence and criminal endangering. Apparently not intent on going down without a fight, a man bearing the name Andrew Marcum responded to the post. "I ain't tripping half of them don't even know me." In addition to sharing the suspect's name, the Facebook account is several years old and had other photos resembling Marcum, including one with a large tattoo spelling his last name on his back. Authorities took the man's post seriously enough to respond to it: "Andrew Marcum, if you could stop by the sheriff's office, tha...

Study Finds That Vaccine Instead of Ebola Made Doctor Sick

Just 12 hours after he got an experimental Ebola vaccine, and just two days after he stuck himself with a needle while caring for Ebola patients in September, Dr. Lewis Rubinson started getting sick. By then, Rubinson was aboard a jet, being evacuated from Sierra Leone to the United States. He wasn't sure if he was infected with Ebola or if the vaccine was causing a reaction. He was en route to strict isolation at the National Institutes of Health outside Washington D.C. Months later, it's fairly clear the vaccine caused the reaction. He has no trace of Ebola infection. What's not entirely clear is whether the vaccine stopped the virus from taking hold, or whether he was never infected in the first place. They could have been symptoms of Ebola, or from the vaccine, which is made using a "live" virus called vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) genetically engineered to carry a small, non-infectious piece of Ebola virus. By design, the vaccine causes a mild infection t...

According to Reuters, there were 125 passengers and five crew aboard the MD-80 plane, which had departed from Atlanta and was scheduled to land at LaGuardia at 11 a.m. Officials reported no serious injuries. Photographs posted to social media showed passengers exiting Delta Flight 1086 from emergency exits and slides. Snow covers the plane runway and the plane's nose appears smashed into a fence. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Stranded! Kentucky Calls State of Emergency, Hundreds of Drivers Stuck for Over 12 Hours

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza A treacherous winter storm reaching from Texas to New England closed schools, canceled more than 4,000 flights and stranded hundreds of drivers overnight in Kentucky, where as much as 23 inches of snow fell. The snow has caused traffic to come to a standstill and a huge section of the freeway between Elizabethtown and Louisville has become a virtual parking lot - leaving cars and trucks littered across the roads since 10pm last night. Desperate for food, some of those stuck in the 50 mile jam have taken to foraging on the side of the road for food and Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has declared a state of emergency. 'Help is on the way,' Kentucky National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Kirk Hilbrecht, interviewed on CNN, told drivers stuck overnight in their cars on I-65 and I-24. http://dailym.ai/1NnrwA4

Facebook censorship? American arrested in UAE for complaining about employer

A Florida man could spend up to five years in Emirati prison for complaining about his employer on Facebook and posting anti-Arab slurs, reports the Tampa Tribune. Police in Abu Dhabi arrested Ryan Pate, 30, when he returned to the UAE last month after spending several weeks in Tampa. “I just couldn’t register it in my head because as an American growing up in the United States, the First Amendment right is just ingrained in my brain,” Pate told The State. Pate, who was working as a helicopter mechanic for Global Aerospace Logistics, said he contacted his employer about recommendations from his doctor. According to his fiancee, Pate was diagnosed with a back condition that makes it difficult for him to perform physical labor. “Their response was heartless and upset Ryan deeply,” his fiancee, Jillian Cardoza, posted on Pate’s GoFundMe account. Pate criticized Global Aerospace Logistics on a Facebook group page. Pate’s lawyer has described the comments as “very offensive.” “It is embarr...

Freight Train Carrying Oil Derails, Catches Fire in Illinois

Authorities said a train loaded with crude oil derailed, catching some of its cars on fire, in Illinois while traveling through a rural area of the state. There were no injuries reported, but at least two of the 103 train cars carrying crude oil were set a blaze. A spokesperson for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency said the scene of the derailment is near the Mississippi River, and there is a concern that oil and other materials on the train may spill into the waterway. State and federal EPA officials were en route to the scene of the derailment. http://nbcnews.to/1A2Gmmu http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Fukushima. Its Not over

As the prestigious scientific journal Nature notes: Shortly after a massive tsunami struck the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on 11 March, an unmanned monitoring station on the outskirts of Takasaki, Japan, logged a rise in radiation levels. Within 72 hours, scientists had analysed samples taken from the air and transmitted their analysis to Vienna, Austria — the headquarters of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), an international body set up to monitor nuclear weapons tests. It was just the start of a flood of data collected about the accident by the CTBTO's global network of 63 radiation monitoring stations. In the following weeks, the data were shared with governments around the world, but not with academics or the public. The attempted cover up of the severity of the Fukushima disaster is nothing new. Governments have been covering up nuclear meltdowns for 50 years, and the basic design for nuclear reactors was ...

Fukushima Molten Corium ~ "The Lava Lamp Effect" Some of it Still Oozing

Catching up on some videos I've been wanting to post after I have my new video editor figured out. Here's one from February 23, 2015 with Dr. Bill Deagle and Chris Harris called Nuclear Engineer: New video appears to show molten corium that melted out of Fukushima reactor — “Some of it is still oozing” — We’ve been talking about criticalities going on and causing continued heat for a long time now” (AUDIO & VIDEO) the lava lamp effect. Published: February 23rd, 2015 at 5:22 pm ET Chris Harris, former licensed Senior Reactor Operator & engineer, Feb 19, 2015 (at 30:15 in): http://bit.ly/1EjTREV The buildings are really in a state of disrepair at Fukushima. There’s been some new video released of what could be the molten – some of the corium – that has leeched out. We talked a long time ago that some of it is not solid and still oozing in that respect. And this video showed something, that if it weren’t just metal melted, but it sure looked like if it was corium, then it...

WOW! NASA Finds Strong Evidence of Vast Ancient Ocean On Mars

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza A massive ancient ocean once covered nearly half of the northern hemisphere of Mars making the planet a more promising place for alien life to have gained a foothold, Nasa scientists say. The huge body of water spread over a fifth of the planet’s surface, as great a portion as the Atlantic covers the Earth, and was a mile deep in places. In total, the ocean held 20 million cubic kilometres of water, or more than is found in the Arctic Ocean, the researchers found. Unveiled by Nasa on Thursday, the compelling evidence for the primitive ocean adds to an emerging picture of Mars as a warm and wet world in its youth, which trickled with streams, winding river deltas, and long-standing lakes, soon after it formed 4.5bn years ago. http://bit.ly/1wYR7Fj http://nyti.ms/1KtPH0X http://bit.ly/1wYR7Fl http://bit.ly/1KtPJFS http://dailym.ai/1wYR7Vy http://bit.ly/1KtPJWo

Morgan Spurlock's "Inside Man" Raises Awareness of Bee Decline

Bees might bring out a stinging sensation of fear in some, but the little critters play a vital role in our everyday life. Through pollination, bees help produce many of our specialty crops like almonds, berries, fruits and vegetables. It's estimated that bees are responsible for about one in every three bites of food in the United States. That's a crop value of $15 billion to $18 billion. But things are not very sweet in the beehives these days. In the "Honey Bee-Ware" episode of "Inside Man," Morgan Spurlock looks into a frightening new trend: the declining bee population. Since the 1940s, honeybee colonies have decreased from 5 million to 2.5 million. Researchers say there could be many reasons for the decline: everything from parasites and bacteria to environmental stress, like a lack of pollen. http://bit.ly/1H190cz http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Parks told reporters, "They have accepted (Wilson's) self-defense." http://bit.ly/1BLV0mE http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

ALERT! Toxic Monsanto Herbicides Found In 75% of Mississippi Air and Rain Samples

Make Sure to Subscribe to the New J.KNIGHT Channel: http://bit.ly/1EkkVQI A new report from the US Geological Survey suggests Mississipians may want to stick with bottled water and take short breaths, and a popular weed killer is largely to blame. Herbicides and pesticides, and their still-toxic breakdown byproducts, are found in an alarmingly large portion of rain and air samples in Mississippi, according to a new government report. The USGS study found that Monsanto’s weed killer Roundup, the most widely used product of its kind, and other pesticides were present in more than 75% of air and rain samples it tested over the past few years during the growing seasons in the Mississippi Delta, a large swath of agricultural land in the western part of the state. http://bit.ly/1LEL69k

There's No Fix If Court Kills Obamacare Subsidies: Admin

The Obama administration says there would be no way to fix the health care system administratively if the Supreme Court rules against the government in the Obamacare case to be argued next week . The Supreme Court must decide whether subsidies — which reduce the cost of health insurance an average of 72 percent — are available to people who buy their insurance on the federal exchange. Only 16 states have their own exchanges set up. That, in turn, would raise the cost of insurance to those still in the system and make hospital emergency rooms once again the only resort for million of Americans. http://nbcnews.to/1DmPqpY http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Obama Vetoes Keystone XL Pipeline Bill

President Barack Obama has officially vetoed a bill to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, marking his third rejection of congressionally approved legislation during his six years in office. In the veto message, Obama said that the bill "attempts to circumvent longstanding and proven processes for determining whether or not building and operating a cross-border pipeline serves the national interest." The veto, which was long expected, came the same day that the GOP-dominated Congress formally submitted the bill to Obama, although it was passed by both chambers of Congress before the week-long Presidents Day recess. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that the Senate will attempt to override the veto no later than March 3. Congress could override the veto if two-thirds of both the House and the Senate vote to do so, but lawmakers aren't expected to reach that threshold. http://nbcnews.to/1AHLK0P http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Windscale Britains Biggest Nuclear Disaster ( Nothing compared to Fukushima ).

Fifty years ago, on the night of 10 October 1957, Britain was on the brink of an unprecedented nuclear tragedy. A fire ripped through the radioactive materials in the core of Windscale, Britain's first nuclear reactor. Tom Tuohy, the deputy general manager at the site, led the team faced with dealing with a nightmare no-one had thought possible. "Mankind had never faced a situation like this; there's no-one to give you any advice," he said. Tuohy and his men were confronted by a terrifying dilemma. If they let the fire burn out, it could spread radioactivity over a large area of Britain. But if they put water on the reactor, they risked turning it into a nuclear bomb that could kill them all. Now tapes of the inquiry into the accident, heard for the first time in a BBC film, reveal the reasons why the politicians covered up the causes of the accident. Scientists had been warning about the dangers of an accident for some time. The safety margins of the radioactive mat...

Russia Offers Iran Latest Anti-Ballistic Missile System, Tehran Considering Deal

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Russia's state-owned high-tech corporation Rostec has offered Iran the chance to buy its latest Antey-2500 anti- aircraft and ballistic missile system, instead of the older S-300 system, the company's CEO said, adding that Tehran is considering the deal. “We have offered Antey-2500 instead of S-300. They are thinking. No decision has been made yet," Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov said while speaking at an international arms show in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, according to TASS. Chemezov reminded that Antey-2500 is an improved version of the S-300, which Russia has stopped manufacturing. Under the US$800 million contract signed in 2007 by the two countries, Russia was to deliver S-300 air defense missile systems to Iran. However, the deal was canceled in 2010 by then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, following UN sanctions imposed on Iran due to its disputed nuclear program. In turn, Tehran filed a currently pending $4 billion lawsuit against Russia with Ge...

Genius, Mental Illness and Everything in Between: Dr. Lamont Tang at TEDxHongKongED

To what extent is genius and mental illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia related? To what extent do genetics and environment influence genius and mental illness? Do we as a society overestimate and overemphasize the value of intelligence? This talk explores the age-old notion that "genius" and "madness" are related. With the explosion of scientific knowledge on the brain in the last decade, this talk explores the extent to which we currently understand the biological basis of creativity, intelligence, and mental illness. Dr. Lamont Tang graduated from Stanford University and received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Brandeis University while training under Professor Eve Marder, past President of the Society of Neuroscience. He then continued his post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco with Graeme Davis. WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. - Video shows a SMART bus slam into several vehicles Oct. 21, 2014 on Maple Road between Middlebelt and Inkster roads in West Bloomfield.
