The official added that Iran was considering bilateral currency swap agreements, allowing partners to exchange one foreign currency for the equivalent in the other currency. http://bit.ly/1yfoYc2

OPEC to See Market Share Drop Even as Oil Slump Slows Shale Boom

OPEC said on Thursday the collapse in oil prices is starting to slow growth in U.S. output, although the slowdown will not prevent demand for OPEC's oil falling in 2015 to its lowest in a decade. In a monthly report, the OPEC forecast that demand for the group's oil will drop to less than 30 million barrels a day in 2015, down 140,000 barrels a day from its previous figure... and the lowest since 2004. The U.S. government said this week it expects domestic oil output in 2016 to grow by only 2.2 percent, the slowest pace in years. http://yhoo.it/1KO0NeL http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Pipeline Attack: Egyptian Militant Group Explodes Gas Line from Sinai to Jordan

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Egyptian jihadists claimed Monday to have bombed a pipeline in the Sinai that carries gas to Jordan, saying it was targeted over Amman's role in the US-led war on the Islamic State group. Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, Egypt's deadliest militant group which has pledged allegiance to IS, tweeted unverified pictures of the claimed attack, without saying when it was carried out. Since the 2011 uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak, there have been 27 confirmed attacks on energy pipelines in the Sinai Peninsula, the most recent of which was on December 23. Jordan is among a number of Arab states that have joined the US-led campaign of air strikes against IS, which captured swathes of Syria and Iraq where it has declared a caliphate! http://f24.my/1ADL3Tk

Heads Up! Massive Asteroid, As Big As 5 Football Fields, Will Be Visible from Earth On Monday

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Dahboo7 On Zeekly: http://bit.ly/1AVK44S An asteroid the size five football fields is approaching Earth and is expected to pass by on Monday. It will be visible through strong binoculars – definitely worth getting; the next time such an asteroid could be this close again will be in 2027. At the closest point to the Earth, asteroid 2004 BL86 will be at a distance of 1.2 million kilometers which – approximately three times the distance from the Earth to the moon. Estimated to be 0.5 km in diameter, it is classified by scientists as potentially dangerous. A space object is considered “potentially dangerous” if it crosses the Earth's orbit at a distance of less than 0.05 AU (approximately 19.5 distances from the Earth to the Moon), and if its diameter exceeds 100-150 meters. Objects of this size are large enough to cause unprecedented destruction, or generate a tsunami in case they fall into the ocean. http://bit.ly/1B6Oja5 http://bit.ly/1zHRkSP

D.C. lawmaker floats bill to allow non-US Citizen immigrants to vote

A bill introduced by D.C. lawmakers would grant some immigrants lacking U.S. citizenship the ability to vote in municipal elections. The Local Resident Voting Rights Act of 2015 would allow D.C. residents who are not U.S. citizens but meet the federal definition of having permanent residency status to cast ballots in local elections, including races for mayor and the D.C. Council as well as initiatives and charter referendums. D.C. Council member David Grosso, at-large independent, introduced the legislation Tuesday. In a statement announcing the introduction of the bill, Mr. Grosso cited statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau that indicate the District is home to nearly 54,000 foreign-born residents who are not naturalized U.S. citizens. “These are taxpayers who should have the opportunity to have their voices heard in local elections,” he said. US using Ukraine as ‘proxy state’ to destabilize Russia

The United States is using Ukraine as a “proxy state” to destabilize Russia, a “very risky policy” that is being implemented in other regions as well, a political analyst in Moscow says. The arming of Ukraine by the US “is a policy that is very dangerous because the United States is using Ukrainian lives as cannon gunpowder for the conflict against Russia,” said Andrew Korybko. “What you’re seeing is the United States using Ukraine as a proxy state for destabilizing Russia,” Korybko told Press TV on Wednesday. “But this policy isn’t new, in fact it’s just the Eastern European application of it,” he added. During his State of the Union speech on Tuesday, US President Barack Obama warned Russia about bullying other countries, expressing his country’s opposition to “Russian aggression” in Ukraine. Ties between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated over the crisis in Ukraine after pro-Western forces ousted the country’s president Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014. The US and its allies...

Why the World Seems Quieter When it Snows

When a fresh batch of snow falls to the ground, the world tends to quiet down. That could partially be attributed to human factors: it's likely winter, people aren't out as much and traffic comes to a halt. However, there are more scientific reasons for the quietude. When a fresh blanket of snow settles down, it's doing a lot more than turning the world into a winter wonderland. Bernadette Woods Placky, meteorologist and director of Climate Central's Climate Matters program said, "When snow falls, it does absorb some of the soundwaves." http://on.mash.to/1BoYFF9 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Venezuela's Currency Woes an Increasing Threat to U.S. Corporate Profits [UPDATE]

Venezuela's deepening economic troubles, and in particular the weakness of the bolivar and restrictive currency controls, have hurt U.S. corporate profits for the fourth quarter of 2014 and are set to inflict further pain this year. In a likely sign of things to come from a number of companies this results reporting season, Ford Motor Company on Friday said it was taking a pre-tax charge of $800 million for its Venezuela business. http://yhoo.it/1BoYFF6 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Terror Attacks Throw Spotlight on 'Jailhouse Islam' [UPDATE]

As France searches for answers in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo massacre , the spotlight has fallen on the role of prison life in the creation of new terror cells. In Europe and the Middle East, jailed extremists have long been known to recruit vulnerable fellow inmates for future attacks and spread their hardline version of Islam to moderate Muslims. Amedy Coulibaly and Cherif Kouachi, two of the perpetrators of the Paris attacks, socialized with a convicted jihadi who has been described as a sorcerer and seducer after falling under his spell inside the gray concrete maze of Europe's largest prison. http://nbcnews.to/1BoYHg8 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Chimps and Gorillas Desperately Need an Ebola Vaccine Too

There is a side to the Ebola crisis that, perhaps understandably, has received little media attention: the threat it poses to our nearest cousins, the great apes of Africa. At this moment in time Ebola is the single greatest threat to the survival of gorillas and chimpanzees. The virus is even more deadly for other great apes as it is for humans, with mortality rates approximately 95% for gorillas and 77% for chimpanzees. Current estimates suggest a third of the world's gorillas and chimpanzees have died from Ebola since the 1990s. http://on.mash.to/1CFFnNu http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Pentagon: First group of US troops to head to Middle East to train insurgents fighting in Syria

The troops will establish training sites for the Syrian opposition. The Pentagon Press Secretary said the troops are mostly special operation forces, adding they were authorized last week to conduct their mission. He also added that the US government would prepare for more deployment if necessary. Washington claims that its troops will train Syrian militants in their battle against the ISIL terrorists. The Pentagon has admitted that since the US-led strikes started five months ago, only one percent of the total lands seized by the ISIL have been recaptured by Iraqi forces. Rockets Rain on Eastern Ukrainian Port City, Killing at Least 16

At least 16 people were killed on Saturday when rockets rained down on residential districts of the strategically significant eastern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol after Russian-backed rebels' rejection of peace talks and promise of a new offensive. It was not immediately clear which side carried out the attack. As with deadly attacks in recent days, Ukrainian and rebel officials blamed each other for the attack. Ukraine's Interior Ministry said in a statement that a 12-year-old girl was among those killed when a series long-range Soviet-made rockets called Grad, meaning hail, hit a market in an eastern district of the city shortly after 9 a.m. local time. At least 46 people were injured. http://on.mash.to/1yQzlZ1 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Japan Says Web Clip Claiming Death of IS Hostage 'outrageous' [UPDATE]

Japan early on Sunday strongly criticized a recording purporting to announce the execution of a Japanese citizen held by Islamic State militants and demanded the immediate release of another captive depicted as appearing on the image. Ramzi al-Amri was at Saturday's rally, one of the biggest since the Houthis started their push for power. "We are protesting now to overthrow the armed militias and kick them out of the capital Sanaa," he said. Rockets Kill 30 in Ukrainian City as Rebels Launch Offensive

Indiscriminate rocket fire slammed into a market, schools, homes and shops Saturday in the eastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol, killing at least 30 people, authorities said. Ukrainian officials rushed to defend the strategically important port city as the separatists' top leader declared that an offensive against it had begun. He later toned down his threats as the scale of civilian casualties became evident. President Petro Poroshenko called an emergency meeting of his military officials and cut short a trip to Saudi Arabia to coordinate the government's response. Military positions in the city were strengthened and forces were being built up, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said. http://yhoo.it/1B6l1sn http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

CODE Project: DARPA Is Building Gangs of Autonomous Flying War Bots!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Dahboo7 On Zeekly: http://bit.ly/1AVK44S For the Pentagon, drones are cheaper to buy and to operate than regular fighter jets. An armed MQ-9 Reaper drone runs about $14 million, compared to $180 million or more for an F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. But unlike barrel-rolling a jet, the business of actually operating a unmanned aerial vehicle, UAV, for the military is lonely, thankless, and incredibly difficult. It’s no wonder the Pentagon doesn’t have enough drone pilots to meet its needs, a problem certain to persist as the military increases its reliance on unmanned systems, especially in areas where it has no interest in putting boots on the ground, like Pakistan or Iraq. The solution that the military is exploring: increasing the level of autonomy in UAVs to allow one pilot to manage several drones at once. http://bit.ly/1z1LFHx

1/24/2015 -- Large Explosive Eruption at Sakurajima Volcano in Japan

January 23, 2015: An explosive nighttime eruption of Sakurajima Volcano in Japan was captured by the webcams monitoring this active region of South Japan. 地震火山噴火溶岩日本 (as seen on http://bit.ly/1z1LFr0 ) Sakurajima volcano has been active in the past (2011 especially), and has since calmed down over the past year. Recently, a few larger eruptions of ash have occurred, as well as a few minor lavic eruptions, however today's most recent eruption really lets us know that the Pacific activity is increasing. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake which occurred in the West Pacific yesterday (january 23 2015), as well as the dozens of 5.0M+ earthquakes which occurred from Japan, South to New Guniea proves the West Pacific is in a state of flux. In 2011, before the Japan 9.0M "mega-quake", there were a series of new eruptions which occurred around the Pacific, as well as multiple impressive eruptions of Sakurajima. In my most recent earthquake forecast, specifically named out the area arou...
