A woman in Queens, N.Y. found she had 50,000 extra roommates mooching rent-free in her apartment: honey bees that had assumed squatter's rights inside her ceiling. Frieda Turkmenilli noticed the occasional bee buzzing around her apartment, but she could never have guessed what was lurking unseen above her head. When neighbors noticed increased bee activity, they complained to building management. Soon after, professional beekeepers pinpointed, using special thermal imaging equipment, a bee colony with more than 12 honeycombs and an estimated 50,000 tenants living on the flipside of Turkmenilli's ceiling. The bees were removed humanely, and plans are for them to be resettled to a bee farm in upstate New York. This is so very sad. Many people have been noticing that the Homeless are just disappearing. We know that since the economy has gotten worse, many more people have become unemployed and on the street. Where are they? If many thousands or millions cannot find work, where did they go? It has become illegal to be homelss and many police brutalize and harrass homeless people. It seems our Christian heritage has not just become a prison torture society, but one that will not take care of the widow and orphan either. Not only do we not forgive and turn the other cheek, we go to war and massacre millions every year in an effort to promote an eye for an eye mentality. A chef preparing a dish from cobra flesh died when the snake's head bit him - 20 minutes AFTER it was cut off. Victim Peng Fan had been preparing a special dish made from the Indochinese spitting cobra, a rare delicacy in Asia where eating snakes is commonplace. A giant crack in the earth in Mexico is sparking fears among local residents while scientists are stunned and still trying to figure out what caused the giant crack in the earth. Farm workers in Mexico have been forced to go around the area due to its unstable underground. According to a report by El Manana on Aug. 21, authorities have ordered local residents to avoid the area until officials can figure out why the enormous crack in the ground happened and how to fix it. As reported by El Manana, local residents and workers discovered the massive trench near Hermosillo last Wednesday. Hermosillo is the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora and is located about 180 miles south of the U.S. border. Video footage taken by a drone (unmanned aircraft) found the crack in the earth to be three quarters of a mile long. At its largest point, the fissure is 16 feet wide and 26 feet deep. A top Ukrainian official said Monday, a column of Russian tanks and armored vehicles has crossed into southeastern Ukraine, away from where most of the intense fighting has been taking place. Col. Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine's National Security Council, told reporters that the column of 10 tanks, two armored vehicles and two trucks crossed the border near Shcherbak and that the nearby city of Novoazovsk was shelled during the night from Russia. Liberia's information minister said Monday, that the Liberian doctor who was among three Africans to receive an experimental Ebola drug has died. Dr. Abraham Borbor, the deputy chief medical doctor at the country's largest hospital, had been among three Liberians, and the first Africans, who received the drug, ZMapp. Two Americans received the untested drug and survived. The leader of Nigeria's Islamist group Boko Haram said his fighters were now ruling the captured northeastern town of Gwoza "by Islamic law", in the first video to state a territorial claim in more than five years of violent insurrection. The Nigerian military was quoted in local press as denying that Boko Haram was in control of the town, although security sources and some witnesses said police and military there had been pushed out. Syria's foreign minister warned the U.S. on Monday not to conduct airstrikes inside Syria against the Islamic State group without Damascus' consent, saying any such attack would be considered an aggression. Walid al-Moallem's words appeared timed to try to pre-empt any U.S. military action in Syria. President Barack Obama has resisted ordering U.S. military action in Syria for three years, even after a deadly chemical weapons attack a year ago near Damascus he blamed on President Bashar Assad's government. But now, Obama faces pressure from his own military leaders to go after the Islamic State group inside Syria.
