U.S. Sen. Hatch Says He is Open to Idea of Raising Gasoline Tax

The chairman of the U.S. Senate tax-writing committee on Thursday expressed positive sentiments about the possibility of raising the federal gasoline tax. "I'm open to look at everything," Hatch said in response to a reporter's question about chatter in Congress over trying to raise the tax to fund highway repairs and other construction projects. "I prefer not to increase taxes but to me that's a user fee," said Hatch, a Republican, adding: "People who use the highways ought to pay for them. And that's a small price to pay to have the best highway system in the world." http://bit.ly/1BMLAV0 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

The Bill to Define the 40-Hour Work Week Explained

One of the first items of business for House Republicans in the new Congress is to vote on a bill Thursday that would redefine the work week from 30 hours to 40 hours. It's called the Save American Workers Act of 2015 and it would require the work week to be defined as 40 hours rather than 30, which is mandated under the Affordable Care Act. Employers would be able to give full-time workers 39 hours of work - nearly a full work week that would not hurt employee output - and avoid providing health insurance to the employee, which is required under the ACA. Employers support it, including the National Retail Federation, the National Restaurant Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. http://nbcnews.to/1ANbSIK http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Alert! Fema Camps Will Soon Outnumber Banks In America!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza n life, how many times have we seen that two similar men face a set of similar circumstances only to witness two entirely different outcomes? One man meets the challenges, grows stronger and more successful as a result. The other man ignores the crisis at first, hoping that it will go away. When the denials breakdown, the second man feels overwhelmed and succumbs to the problem and his life is subsequently ripped apart. Nations are like people, they have a character, a personality and a persona. They either have resilience and can bounce back from adversity, or they do not. They either have courage or they cower in the corner because they are weak and timid in the face of danger. And like with the two men, when countries face the same challenges, one country may thrive and the other country takes a dive. When we look at how two countries, Iceland and the United States, responded to economic Armageddon in 2008, one country was head and shoulders above the other in...

Alert! Police Using Radar to Scan Inside Homes, Raising Serious 4th Amendment Concerns!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Tenth Circuit by Judge Neil Gorsuch is always known for his strong opinions. He recently let the increasingly militarized and Constitution-ignoring police have it in the ruling on United States v. Denson, which addresses the use a Doppler radar device to determine if residents are present within a home to be searched or raided. The case involved a home entry and arrest of a suspect. Judge Gorsuch notes the importance of Fourth Amendment Constitutional issues that are raised by use of a “Doppler radar device capable of detecting from outside the home the presence of human breathing and movement within.” http://bit.ly/1waiPhB

German official warns sanctions on Russia could backfire on Europe

German deputy chancellor warns that sanctions on Russia could backfire on Europe. He says Europeans don’t want to bring Moscow to its knees. Sigmar Gabril, who is also Germany’s economy minister, says the sanctions are meant to push the Kremlin back to the negotiating table. The West says Russia is involved in a nine-month conflict in eastern Ukraine. Moscow denies any wrongdoing. The US and the EU have slapped severe sanctions on Russia over the allegation. Russia’s vital oil and gas sectors have suffered heavy blows, pushing the economy into recession. Airstream: vintage aircraft shells as luxury homes on wheels

When a 26-year-old Matthew Hofman launched his own architecture firm, he bought a 1978 Airstream trailer and redesigned it to live in. He received so much attention for his own tiny home on wheels (160 square feet) that he began renovating Airstreams for clients. Less than 5 years later he’s recrafted more than 60 Airstreams, but he finds each one a design challenge given their aircraft-style shell. “Airstreams are like an egg. They’re what’s called semi-monocoque construction which is like, it’s an airplane so that creates the integrity as a whole so everything moves together. So there are no walls, there are no roofs, there are no diaphragms that create load, but it’s all one unit. It needs to be whole. And then once you start to do things like cutting out panels, then it really starts to become a design challenge.” The first riveted aluminum trailer, the “Road Chief”, was designed in 1934 by aircraft designer Hawley Bowlus who had worked on the Spirit of St. Louis. Two years later,...

Going Green! Scientists Turn to Hemp for Cheap, Fast Charging Batteries!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Forget lab-made materials like graphene -- natural, old-fashioned hemp may be the ticket to our energy future. Researchers have demonstrated that you can make very efficient carbon electrodes simply by heating hemp bast fibers in a two-stage process. The resulting substance holds as much energy as graphene, but is much cheaper to make. You're just using biological leftovers, after all. It's much more tolerant of temperature extremes, too, and can survive anything from freezing conditions to a scorching 200F. And before you ask -- this is hemp, not pot, so you're not going to get a contact high just by using a battery. http://engt.co/1xI8C1S

Idaho 4.9 Earthquake Causes Rock Slides, 4.3 Quake Strikes Near Los Angeles

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza A moderate earthquake rattled a broad swath of Idaho early on Saturday, damaging property and triggering rock slides near its epicenter in Challis, a city that has endured hundreds of slight to moderate temblors over the last 10 months, authorities said. The latest measured at a magnitude of 4.9 and was centered about four miles (6.5 km) from Challis in the state's central mountains, but was felt as far away as Boise, a 190-mile (305-km) drive to the southwest, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake caused rock slides, damaged homes and knocked out power around Custer County, local officials said. http://yhoo.it/1xI8Aaa http://on.doi.gov/1w6Vmxy

Reporter's File - Is Affordable Care Act really working?

Almost two years ago, President Obama launched the controversial Affordable Care Act, better known as the Obamacare, making it mandatory that every American citizen secure health insurance by February 15, 2015, or face penalty. President Obama dedicated a large portion of his time to get the new law approved by Congress, which according to some experts has done him more harm than good. However, Obama faces fierce opposition in Congress and in the Supreme Court after launching the Affordable Care Act. According to Congress, millions are losing their health coverage while the nation’s highest court has deemed the new plan illegal. Fights involving hundreds of teens break out at AMC at Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis

There has been another fight at a movie theater and mall, this time in Indianapolis. Castleton Square Mall closed early Saturday after a fight broke out inside, reportedly involving hundreds of teens. Fights had broken out inside earlier. "It was like two groups at a time. People just kept jumping in like they were just like kicking each other," said Darelene Hernandez, who said she'd been inside shopping when the fights started "They started running up and down and we didn't know what was happening. We saw people fighting and all the police officers were running towards them," added Davin Juerling who was with Hernandez.. Some witnesses said they heard someone had a gun, but no one has been able to tell police they actually saw one. Later, there were reports of shots fired in front of the AMC movie theater, but again police have not found any evidence of gunfire. There were no reports of injuries and, as of Saturday night, no arrests were made. Police disp...

Islamist Group Seizes Damascus Suburb From Rivals: Monitor

A monitoring group said, Islamist fighters seized a suburb east of Damascus on Sunday after driving out a smaller rival insurgent group in deadly clashes, the latest example of rebel infighting in Syria's nearly four-year conflict. the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, fighters from the Army of Islam clashed with members of the Army of the Nation group in Douma. Both groups include Sunni Muslim fighters opposed to President Bashar al-Assad's government, and the fighting is seen as more of a turf war than a conflict over ideology. http://bit.ly/1rUQI9G http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

No Chance of OPEC Output Cut, Even After Oil Dips Below $50 - Gulf Delegates

Saudi Arabia and its Gulf OPEC allies are showing no sign of considering cutting output to boost oil prices, even though they dipped below $50 a barrel this week. OPEC decided against limiting production at its last meeting on Nov 27, despite misgivings from non-Gulf members, after Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi said the group needed to defend market share against U.S. shale oil and other competing sources. Those misgivings have grown with a slide in oil prices to below half their level in June, hurting the economies of OPEC's smaller producers. Benchmark Brent dipped to $49.66 on Wednesday, its lowest since April 2009, before rising to $51 on Thursday. http://yhoo.it/1AMgeQ8 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

The FCC May Drop the Hammer on Net Neutrality in February Vote

Cautious optimism is growing that the federal government's top communications regulator will adopt rules that would cheer net neutrality advocates. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler spoke at CES in Las Vegas on Wednesday, where he hinted that the regulator's upcoming vote — set to take place on Feb. 26 — would include a shift to Title II, a move that has been championed by activists seeking to ensure strict net neutrality as well as President Barack Obama. While Wheeler did not come out and explicitly endorse Title II — shorthand for a major change in how the FCC regulates broadband companies that would extend the regulator's power — he did indicate that his goals fall in line with what that plan promises. http://on.mash.to/1AMgejc http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

The White House refused on Thursday to fire the prosecutors who oversaw the criminal investigation of Aaron Swartz, the late Internet activist and coder, nearly two years after petitions asking for their removal attracted more than 90,000 signatures. Swartz committed suicide on Jan. 11, 2013, while awaiting trial for downloading hundreds of thousand of documents from the scholarly database JSTOR. Rob Kirby-Financial Meltdown and Confiscation of Your Money Coming in 2015

Rob Kirby of KirbyAnalytics.com thinks what is happening with oil prices being cut in half in a matter of months is no accident. Kirby explains, “I look at what is transpiring in the crude oil market as yet another engineered or financial trickery on the part of the financial elites. . . . What this breakdown in the crude oil price is going to spawn another financial crisis. It will be tied to the junk debt that has been issued to finance the shale oil plays in North America. It is reported to be in the area of half a trillion dollars’ worth of junk debt that is held largely on the books of large financial institutions in the western world. When these bonds start to fail, they will jeopardize the future of these financial institutions. I do believe that will be the signal for the Fed to come riding to the rescue with QE4. I also think QE4 is likely going to be accompanied by bank bail-ins because we all know all western world countries have adopted bail-in legislation in their most re...
