Japan Weighs Ransom in Islamic State Threat to Kill Hostages

The Islamic State group threatened Tuesday to kill two Japanese hostages within 72 hours, demanding a $200 million ransom for their lives from Japan's prime minister as he visited the Middle East. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe vowed to save captives Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa, telling journalists in Jerusalem: "Their lives are the top priority." But with his military generally only operating in a self-defense capacity at home, Abe faced a hard choice of rewarding extremists now targeted by a U.S.-led coalition or asking an ally like America, which has tried a previous hostage rescue in Syria, to launch a risky operation on its behalf. http://apne.ws/1xTB3DB http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

WTF! Anti-Government Filmmaker 'David Crowley' and Family Found Murdered In Minnesota!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza The creator, director and producer of the controversial movie about the encroaching police state and FEMA camps in America, David Crowley, has been found dead with his wife and young daughter over the weekend. The police are calling it a murder-suicide incident yet not ruling out anything suspicious. The movie was currently in production and Crowley had recently received a contract of $30 million to complete the project of his dreams. While depression can have its harshest affects on people, his friends and co-workers have stated that the police story is highly unlikely. His movie, Gray State, had a sort of cult following with nearly a million views of its trailer on YouTube. http://bit.ly/1DZSeMb

Feds Crack Down on Survival Preppers

If you’re a fan of reality TV shows, you’ve probably caught at least an episode or two of Doomsday Preppers. It’s a show that follows these so-called “preppers” around with cameras, and documents how prepared they are for a potential disaster. You might be surprised to learn, there are over 3 MILLION Americans who consider themselves PREPPERS of one kind or another. Not all of them subscribe to the spooky sounding “Doomsday” theme. Many of them are just preparing for a power outage, natural disaster, terrorist attacks or economic turmoil. In a corporate setting, they call this kind of thing “risk assessment,” “emergency preparedness” or “disaster recovery.” The very programs President Obama is calling for from companies and their DATA security. But when it comes to you and your personal home, some agencies in the federal government don’t believe you should have the same rights to stockpile important elements or prepare for a potential problem. In a recent ruling, the EPA targeted fami...

Retail Earthquake: These Big Name Stores to Shut Down

In comparison with the rest of the world, the US economy is doing fairly well… for now. Ironically, the same thing that’s putting more money in the pockets of AMERICANS is taking money OUT of the pockets of so many other people around the globe. Cheap oil here in the US is saving the American family hundreds of dollars every month. But financial experts around the world say lower oil prices signify a greater problem. The global economy is slowing down. Even with a few extra dollars in our pockets, the average American spent even LESS this year on Black Friday, and throughout the entire holiday shopping craze. The Federal Reserve and the White House are doing their best to pitch an economic recovery, pointing to job growth and cheap prices at the gas pump. But one truth is constant when it comes to global markets: when an economic slowdown starts, one of two things is right around the corner: either a grinding halt… or a government bailout. We’ve seen it in the past. Every time trade s...

Ukraine military accuses Russia of direct attack on its forces

Ukrainian army units came under attack from Russian regular forces in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday (January 20) and heavy fighting was taking place, a Ukrainian military spokesman said. It is one of the boldest assertions yet by Ukraine of direct Russian military involvement in the nine-month conflict between pro-Russian separatists and government forces. At a specially convened briefing, spokesman Andriy Lysenko said Ukrainian forces were attacked by Russian troops in the Luhansk region. Shiite Rebels Shell Yemen President's Home, Take Over Palace

Shiite rebels shelled the residence of Yemen's leader and swept into the nearby presidential palace Tuesday in what a top army commander said was an unfolding coup. Authorities said President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi — an important U.S. ally in the fight against al-Qaida's powerful and highly lethal branch in Yemen — was unharmed but his grip on power appeared increasingly precarious. The Shiite rebels, known as Houthis, seized the capital Sanaa in September as part of a longer power struggle with Hadi and effectively govern several other cities as well. http://apne.ws/156czQH http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Oilfield services provider Baker Hughes said it expects to lay off about 7,000 employees, days after industry leader Schlumberger said it would cut jobs as drilling activity slows due to a steep fall in oil prices. Global oil prices have tumbled almost 60 percent since June, hitting five-year lows as growing production and tepid global demand has caused a supply glut and prompted oil producers to scale back spending. Russia Must Strengthen Army to Defend Itself: Putin

President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday Russia must strengthen its armed forces to protect its sovereignty against the "challenge" posed by other countries that might threaten Moscow. Putin told a meeting of Russia's industry commission, "We will continue to strengthen our armed forces and military organizations as a whole by making them modern, mobile, well-equipped and capable of performing their main task - to neutralize risks and political, potential threats to the security of our country." Unmanned aircraft briefly flies over French Presidential Palace

A drone has flown over the French presidential palace in central Paris. This follows a string of similar drone sightings over the country’s nuclear facilities. Sources with the Elysee Palace say the unmanned aircraft hovered a few seconds over the palace before being spotted by police guarding the building. The Paris prosecutor's office has started a probe into the incident. Over a dozen cases of mysterious drone overflights were reported at French nuclear plants in October and November. No one has ever claimed responsibility for the drone incidents. The latest sighting comes a week after Paris terror attacks, which left 17 people dead in three days and put the country on heightened alert.
