CIA Says Its Inspector General is Resigning at End of Month

The CIA announced on Monday that its inspector general, who investigated a dispute between the agency and Congress regarding the handling of records of the CIA’s detention and interrogation activities, is resigning effective Jan. 31. The agency said in a statement that David Buckley, who had served as the agency’s internal watchdog for more than four years, was leaving the agency to "pursue an opportunity in the private sector." Officials said his departure was unrelated to politics or anything he had investigated. Buckley’s office last July issued a report on a dispute between the agency and the Senate Intelligence Committee. http://bit.ly/1IgSiET http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

Sarah Palin Tells PETA to "Chill" Over Controversial Pic of Son and Dog

"'Chill PETA," says Sarah Palin in response to criticism over a photo of her 6-year-old son, Trig, standing on top of the family dog and using the pet as a stepping stone. The picture was posted on her Facebook page on New Year's Day. The Republican figure and former vice presidential candidate had joked that her son had found her and "a lazy dog blocking his way " while trying to help wash dishes. Palin's post triggered mostly negative responses, including more than 24,000 on her own page, as well as from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals organization and other animal rights groups and supporters. http://eonli.ne/1DokwNg http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

GMO Lawsuit: Iowa Farmers Are Suing Syngenta!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza The specific type of corn, Syngenta AG’s Agrisure Viptera, had not been approved by China. The rejection of the corn led to a drop in grain and soybean futures and a three-year low for the price of corn amid at the Chicago Board of Trade amid concerns that China is going to limit not just corn but all agriculture imports. A similar drop in wheat and alfalfa prices occurred earlier in 2013 when GMO strains of both alfalfa and wheat were discovered in Washington and Oregon. Sixteen Iowa farmers and businesses filed a GMO contamination lawsuit against Syngenta seeking both punitive and monetary damages. The biotech company which rivals Monsanto for a share of the genetically modified seed market, is based in Switzerland, but also has operations in Iowa. Previous legal filings against Syngenta combined with the current GMO corn lawsuit now mean that the company faces court challenges from 100 commodity traders and farmers – including Archer Daniels Midland and Cargil...

Alert! Police Using Radar to Scan Inside Homes, Raising Serious 4th Amendment Concerns!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Tenth Circuit by Judge Neil Gorsuch is always known for his strong opinions. He recently let the increasingly militarized and Constitution-ignoring police have it in the ruling on United States v. Denson, which addresses the use a Doppler radar device to determine if residents are present within a home to be searched or raided. The case involved a home entry and arrest of a suspect. Judge Gorsuch notes the importance of Fourth Amendment Constitutional issues that are raised by use of a “Doppler radar device capable of detecting from outside the home the presence of human breathing and movement within.” http://bit.ly/1waiPhB

Airstream: vintage aircraft shell as luxury house on wheels

When a 26-year-old Matthew Hoffman launched his own architecture firm, he bought a 1978 Airstream trailer and redesigned it to live in. He received so much attention for his own tiny home on wheels (160 square feet) that he began renovating Airstreams for clients. Less than 5 years later he’s recrafted more than 60 Airstreams, but he finds each one a design challenge given their aircraft-style shell. “Airstreams are like an egg. They’re what’s called semi-monocoque construction which is like, it’s an airplane so that creates the integrity as a whole so everything moves together. So there are no walls, there are no roofs, there are no diaphragms that create load, but it’s all one unit. It needs to be whole. And then once you start to do things like cutting out panels, then it really starts to become a design challenge.” The first riveted aluminum trailer, the “Road Chief”, was designed in 1934 by aircraft designer Hawley Bowlus who had worked on the Spirit of St. Louis. Two years later...
