Pakistan says a man believed to be a local commander of the terrorist group, ISIL has confessed to receiving funds from the United States. Local media say Yousaf al-Salafi made the confession under interrogation. Salafi and two companions were arrested in the northeastern city of Lahore last week. He is said to be a Pakistani-Syrian who came to Pakistan through Turkey five months ago, where he formed an ISIL offshoot. The man revealed that the money was given to him to run the organization in Pakistan and recruit young people to fight in Syria. Salafi said he was paid 600 dollars for each militant recruit. Hundreds of Pakistanis have reportedly been sent to Syria and Iraq to join ISIL militant ranks. The Syrian arm of al Qaeda attacked a Western-backed rebel group near Aleppo on Thursday. The attack was revealed by the rebel group and an organization monitoring the civil war. It threatens one of the few remaining pockets of the non-jihadist opposition. Growing numbers of freighters were backed up around the United States' two busiest cargo hubs on Sunday due to a dispute between shipping companies and dock workers that has led to a partial shutdown of ports along the West Coast. A new CNN International poll finds that if the Department of Homeland Security shuts down later this month, most Americans would point the finger at congressional Republicans. The survey’s results find that if DHS shuts down on Feb. 27 — the date when the department is set to run out of funds — 53 percent of Americans would blame the Republicans in Congress. Thirty percent of respondents said they would blame President Barack Obama, while 13 percent said they would blame both. It has been reported that Slipknot guitarist Mick Thomson has allegedly suffered a stab wound to the back of his head as he had an alleged altercation with his brother Andrew the stab wound is reported as non-life threatening. Sergeant Kenneth Smith and Patrolman Fred Alexander face disciplinary hearings March 17 for their roles in the fight that occurred Jan. 12. The fight was an escalation of a dispute over how a traffic stop had just been handled. As they returned to the station the surveillance video shows Smith getting out of his cruiser ordering Alexander to come over to him. According to a police report, Alexander refused cursing at the sergeant and walking away.
