A remarkable report from Spencer Ackerman at The Guardian has revealed in detail the existence of an interrogation facility used by Chicago police to detain and hold people in secret. The report describes how police have used a "nondescript warehouse" to keep detainees out of booking databases, beat prisoners, shackle them for "prolonged periods," and keep them from legal counsel for up to 24 hours — including even children as young as 15. If that sounds familiar, it's because the US has used similar facilities around the world since 9/11 in its prosecution of the "war on terror." CIA "black sites" around the world have been used to secretly detain, interrogate, and torture alleged enemies of state. His reckless driving left him stranded in the middle of a highway. As a reminder to the dangers of driving in dangerous weather, the Ohio State Highway Patrol released a dramatic video featuring a crash last month in Cleveland. After the driver slid into another vehicle he was ejected from the car, and ended up on his hands and knees in the middle of a four-lane highway. Beginning in 2016, passengers attempting to pass through a federal TSA checkpoint will be subject to the requirements of the REAL ID Act. The Obama administration says there would be no way to fix the health care system administratively if the Supreme Court rules against the government in the Obamacare case to be argued next week . The Supreme Court must decide whether subsidies — which reduce the cost of health insurance an average of 72 percent — are available to people who buy their insurance on the federal exchange. Only 16 states have their own exchanges set up. President Barack Obama has officially vetoed a bill to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, marking his third rejection of congressionally approved legislation during his six years in office. In the veto message, Obama said that the bill "attempts to circumvent longstanding and proven processes for determining whether or not building and operating a cross-border pipeline serves the national interest." The veto, which was long expected, came the same day that the GOP-dominated Congress formally submitted the bill to Obama, although it was passed by both chambers of Congress before the week-long Presidents Day recess. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that the Senate will attempt to override the veto no later than March 3. The video shows officer Victor Ramirez pushing the homeless man, Bruce Laclair, to the ground before slapping him across the face. Laclair, who was wearing a hospital band at the time, was arrested for trespassing. The witness who filmed the incident told the Sun Sentinel that Laclair was sleeping on a bench before the incident. And they did it without obtaining warrants. The discovery was made after the ACLU fileda public records request with over 30 Florida law enforcement agencies in 2014 to find out how police were using surveillance tools to track down cell phone users. A May 2014 email obtained by the ACLU shows the equipment, commonly known as ‘Stingray’ after a popular brand, was used over 1,800 times – often in robbery, burglary, and theft investigations.
