"500 People Will Control American Democracy"

Image
The U.S. Supreme Court appears poised to strike down most of the remaining limits on massive spending by wealthy donors on political campaigns. On Tuesday, justices heard arguments in McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission , which has been referred to as "the next Citizens United ." Republican leaders and wealthy GOP donor Shaun McCutcheon wants the Supreme Court to throw out aggregate limits on individual contributions in a single two-year cycle, saying they violate free speech. "If these advocate limitations go down, 500 people will control American democracy. It would be 'government for the 500 people,' not for anybody else -- and thats the risk," says Burt Neuborne , law professor and founding legal director of the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School. On Tuesday, Chief Justice John Roberts indicated he is prepared to strike down caps on donations to individual candidates, but perhaps not on donations to politic...

In 2010, more than 2.3 million illegal aliens residing in the United States received more than $4.2 Billion in child tax credits. In large cities and small towns alike, across the nation, illegals are receiving massive tax returns that at times, equal more than half of the amount of the average American citizen’s annual income In towns as small as Thermal, CA, where the population is just under 3,000 total residents, there were 67 tax returns sent to illegals residing at a total of  only 95 addresses in the total amount of $402,000 in refunds. In Parksley, VA, a small town of less than 1,000 residents, there were 100 returns sent to illegals residing in only 48 different residences, for a combined amount of $163,711. And in Frankford, DE, population 862, total returns of $712,004 were mailed to 183 households of illegals. How can this be happening, you ask? It’s due to a little tax rule passed back in 1996 that was nothing more than the IRS’s cheesy little way to...

ALERT: Government Freezes EBT Funds: Orders States to Withhold Transfers to Food Stamp Recipients.      This past weekend America witnessed a limited crash in the computer systems that manage electronic benefit transfers across the country. Within hours of the crash panicked food stamp recipients who were left with no way to feed their families rushed grocery store shelves to obtain everything they could while the system was down. The outage lasted less than a day, but it proved what many already knew, that America had become a nation so dependent on government subsidies that any glitch in the system would lead to total pandemonium. But if you thought that isolated incident was bad, imagine what will happen next month. We say next month because the USDA, which oversees the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), has just issued an order to SNAP agency directors calling for their respective States to implement an emergency contingency program....
