Your Browser May Soon Force You To Connect Securely to Government Web Sites

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza In recent years many tech companies have taken an extra step to protect the privacy of their users by having their services default to encryption, which is signified by a little lock icon in most browsers and the changing of HTTP at the beginning of a Web address to HTTPS. The encryption creates a sort of digital tunnel between a user and a Web site -- blocking prying eyes from being able to see or manipulate the data as it is transmitted around the world. Without HTTPS, anyone who has access to traffic between a user and the Web site they are visiting can potentially collect data on the user's online activities, or even change the data that either the visitor or Web site receives without their knowledge. "HTTP is like an open postcard you send through the mail," explained Eric Mill, who works at 18F -- an organization under the umbrella of the General Services Administration that focuses on improving the digital delivery of government services. Freighter Backlog Worsens Outside Major West Coast Ports

Growing numbers of freighters were backed up around the United States' two busiest cargo hubs on Sunday due to a dispute between shipping companies and dock workers that has led to a partial shutdown of ports along the West Coast. With cargo delays rippling through the U.S. economy, President Barack Obama on Saturday dispatched U.S. Labor Secretary Tom Perez to California to help broker an agreement. Lee Peterson, a spokesman for the port of Long Beach, said that by Sunday morning, 34 container ships, tankers and other cargo vessels were waiting to dock at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, up from 32 on Saturday. The Obama administration's move to send Perez came after shippers vowed to prevent the loading and unloading of freight through Monday from container ships at the 29 ports, barring a settlement in talks with the dock workers' union. http://yhoo.it/17emepc http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Dahboo7 On Zeekly: http://bit.ly/1AVK44S A bomb explosion at a pipeline has halted the operations of El Sarir oil field in northern Libya. "The firefighters are still trying to put out the fire. What happened is sabotage," he added. No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the blast. However, Libya’s internationally recognized government blames such attacks on armed groups, some of which are deemed to be affiliated with ISIL Takfiri terrorist group. Massive Heist: Hackers Steal Over $300 Million from 100 Banks In 30 Countries

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Dahboo7 On Zeekly: http://bit.ly/1AVK44S Some $300 million were stolen from 100 banks in 30 countries in 2013, according to a new report revealed by The New York Times. The attack was allegedly carried out by European, Russian, and Chinese hackers, who used malicious software to penetrate the banking systems – via sending e-mails to employees. Once gaining access, hackers found out what employees were responsible for cash transfers or ATMs, and installed a remote access tool: a program that can take screenshots from employees’ computers, according to the NYT. Then, they transferred the sums to bank accounts in different countries. http://bit.ly/1L1QLG4

Yemen's Last Jews Eye Exodus After Islamist Militia Takeover

A few worried families are all that remain of Yemen's ancient Jewish community, and they too may soon flee after a Shi'ite Muslim militia seized power in the strife-torn country this month. Harassment by the Houthi movement - whose motto is "Death to America, death to Israel, curse the Jews, victory to Islam" - caused Jews in recent years to largely quit the northern highlands they shared with Yemen's Shi'ites for millennia. But political feuds in which the Jews played no part escalated last September into an armed Houthi plunge into the capital Sanaa, the community's main refuge from which some now contemplate a final exodus. Members of the community told Reuters around six Yemeni Jews from the same family arrived in Israel on Friday. http://bit.ly/1zF3JRM http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ
