Clint Eastwood's Oscar-nominated American Sniper set off a $105 million box-office frenzy this weekend with potential ramifications in a capital murder case. On Feb. 11, Eddie Ray Routh is scheduled to stand trial for killing Chris Kyle, the former Navy SEAL played by Bradley Cooper in the film. http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson announced the investigation after prosecutors were forced to drop a weapons case involving a man accused of having a gun outside his Brooklyn apartment. The probe will center on allegations that police officers have been planting guns on innocent people. The man in question in this particular case, 53-year-old Jeffery Herring, was arrested last year by officers from the 67th Precinct in East Flatbush. Police said they had a tip from a confidential informant stating that someone had a gun. Herring matched the description of the man, and a gun was found at the location reported by the informant. However, the gun found was in a plastic bag with no traces of the suspect’s fingerprints. The charges were dropped when police were unable to bring the informant to court despite a judge’s order that he or she appear. The second year of Affordable Care Act enrollment is almost up, and now, a new sign of dysfunction at the highest levels of the program. Many roads across the Northeastern United States turned into black strips of ice on Sunday, causing traffic problems, flight delays and crashes that killed at least four. As oil prices fell, many expected OPEC members to lower their production in an effort to boost prices - but they didn't. A 23 yo man with an iron rod in his head and blood streaming down drove to a petrol station in a small town in the north of New Zealand on Saturday and calmly asked for some help, according to local media.
