The people of Jordan were left reeling on Wednesday after a brutal video surfaced showing pilot Muath al-Kaseasbeh being burned alive, a brutal act for which the Islamic State has claimed responsibility. The 22-minute-long video posted Tuesday sparked immediate condemnation by the international community and ignited scenes of grief in Jordan. The spokesman for the Jordanian armed forces, Mamdouh al-Ameri, on Tuesday evening confirmed al-Kaseasbeh's death and vowed "punishment and revenge." The government is also alleging that al-Kaseasbeh has been dead since Jan. 3, though that has not been independently confirmed. King Abdullah II of Jordan cut short a visit to the U.S. after the footage surfaced.
