Many protesters in Hong Kong who suspect authorities may shut down some cell networks in the city have begun chatting on an app that doesn't require a central network connection. The app, however, has some potential pitfalls and demonstrators have a few other options at their disposal, especially if they have Android phones. At least 100,000 people in Hong Kong have reportedly downloaded FireChat in the last 24 hours. The search for survivors was called off today after a volcano erupted on Saturday in Japan, with at least 36 apparent deaths and 63 injured. Mount Ontake, a popular hiking destination, is about 130 miles west of Tokyo on the main Japanese island of Honshu. The volcano erupted just before noon on what was a clear autumn day, leaving hundreds of hikers trapped for several hours. About 40 people who had been stranded on the mountain came down on Sunday, the Associated Press reported. Many were injured, some with broken bones, by falling ash and stone, and they were rescued with the aid of stretchers and helicopters. Five more victims were recovered on Monday, Reuters reported, bringing the death toll to at least 36 victims before rescuers stopped searching because of toxic gas. Couple Sues Police Over Tense Confrontation Inside Collingdale Home (NBCPhiladelphia) A Pennsylvania couple is suing three police officers, claiming their rights were violated during a tense confrontation captured on cellphone video. A man who was shot after he beheaded one woman and attacked another at an Oklahoma food processing plant from which he had just been fired has regained consciousness and has been interviewed by detectives, police said Saturday. Alton Nolen, 30, remains hospitalized in stable condition following Thursday's attack at the Vaughan Foods plant in the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore, Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said. He said Nolen will be charged with first-degree murder and assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and that he may also face federal charges. Lewis said Nolen was fired right before the attack, and that he then drove from the building that houses the company's human resources department to its main distribution center . Called People's Protection Units, or YPG, they have been dedicated to protecting Kurds from whatever the three-year-long war in the country may throw at them. Lately it’s been the Islamic State, the terrorist group that proved to be worthy of being bombed by America itself. The People’s Protection Units don’t have killer drones or stealth bombers.
