Miami authorities passing law to criminalize homeless

Authorities in the US city of Miami have proposed a new law that prevents homeless people from sleeping on the sidewalks of the streets. The proposed measure also bans the use of sleeping tents, mattresses and pillows on the streets and prohibits eating, sitting and asking for money in public spaces. Critics have accused authorities of penalizing homelessness. This anti-homeless laws are on the rise all over United States and according to a new study released by the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty these ordinances are costly and don't make much of a dent in reducing homelessness rates. But the City of Miami Police Department guarantees that there are no arrests and rejects the accusation of criminalization of the homeless. The fact is that the shortage of affordable housing and the lack of more structured shelters leave the homeless with no choice but to perform basic acts of survival on the streets. Experts say that rather than punishing those who experience hom...

Missouri Governor Candidate Dead In Alleged Suicide

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Missouri auditor and gubernatorial candidate Tom Schweich has been found dead in an apparent suicide, according to local media reports. Schweich, considered a leading Republican contender for the party’s 2016 nomination for state governor, died Thursday after being transported to a hospital in the wake of a “medical situation” at his home. Police told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he died from a single gunshot wound and that they are inclined to believe Schweich committed suicide. "What we know at this point suggests an apparent suicide," Clayton Police Chief Kevin Murphy said on Thursday. However, he added that an autopsy and investigation still need to be conducted. http://bit.ly/1FBwBix

Mystery Booms Fill the Skies Over Central North Texas

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Booms, it turns out. Big, mysterious booms that filled the sky from south Grand Pairie to Southlake on Tuesday afternoon. And while they may have been nothing more than building demolition, they made for a dramatic diversion from the cold weather. Dogs howled, cats freaked out and Facebook feeds exploded about 4 p.m., when what sounded like a half-dozen distant bombs echoed around the suburbs. In her north Irving dining room, Judy Howard had flashbacks to the city’s recent spate of earthquakes, which could cause booms when seismic waves collided. But Irving’s last quake was over a month ago, and Howard’s floor wasn’t shaking. So like many others, she could only wonder. “I’m used to the roar of the jets,” she said, speaking from her house, which is just a few miles Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. “But those were not jet engines, unless one was backfiring.” If not earthquakes, how about ice quakes? Scientists have pinned mysterious booms in other frigid ci...

World’s first human head transplant: Surgeon says possible scientific breakthrough is just two years

The world's first attempt to transplant a human head will be launched this year at a surgical conference in the United States. The procedure was first proposed in 2013 by Sergio Canavero of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group in Italy to help extend the lives of people suffering from muscle and nerve degeneration or those who have advanced cancer. Canavero said the surgery could be ready as early as 2017. The procedure begins with doctors cooling the patient’s head and the donor’s body so their cells do not die during the operation. After the neck is cut through, major blood vessels are linked up using thin tubes, and the spinal cord cut cleanly with a sharp surgical knife to minimise nerve damage. The head is then moved on to the donor’s body, and the spinal cords can be fused together using polyethylene glycol to encourage the fat in cell membranes to mesh. Once the neck is sutured, the recipient will be kept in a coma for three or four weeks while implanted electrodes prov...

The Names: This is Who ISIS Has Recruited From the West

More than 20,000 foreigners have flocked to fight for ISIS, the radical Sunni group that controls portions of Iraq and Syria. According to Nicholas Rasmussen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, they come from 90 countries, and an estimated 3,400 fighters come from Western states,. Those are the numbers -- estimates, of course. U.S. officials say more than 150 fighters have traveled from America to join the militant group. Their individual identities are not known yet, But they say they do know the identities of a handful of people who have been accused of trying. On Wednesday, three men from New York were arrested and charged with conspiring to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization. http://bit.ly/182y3zj http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ

US tensions with Israel increase over Iran's nuclear programme.

US-Israeli relations appear to be in danger of sinking to their lowest level in recent years. The issue at stake is Iran. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is aggressively opposing the nuclear deal that the US government is negotiating with Iran. "I respect the White House", said the Israeli premier, "I respect the president of the United States, but in such a fateful matter that can determine if we exist or not, it is my duty to do everything to prevent this great, great danger to … READ MORE : http://bit.ly/1whEkNU What are the top stories today?
