President Ernest Bai Koroma reinstated restrictions in Sierra Leone in response to the rise in confirmed cases of Ebola. Sierra Leone recorded 18 new cases of Ebola in the week ending Saturday, up from 16 new cases last week. The Transportation Security Administration said it is unlikely to detect and unable to extinguish what an FBI report called “the greatest potential incendiary threat to aviation,” according to a classified document obtained by The Intercept. Yet despite that warning, sources said TSA is not adequately preparing to respond to the threat. House Speaker John Boehner faces a looming threat from conservatives to oust him as speaker, and it's tying his hands on funding the Department of Homeland Security. Congress passed a one-week extension of funding just hours before the deadline on Friday night. It was that fear fueling Boehner's resistance to a longer-term bill, as it might prompt backlash from conservatives. President Barack Obama signed the bill, which funds the Department of Homeland Security through Friday. While the Senate passed a clean bill funding DHS through the end of the fiscal year this week, it appears conservative opposition is currently discouraging Boehner from bringing up a similar bill in the House. Russia was thrown into shock and mourning after Boris Nemtsov, a vocal critic of President Vladimir Putin, was fatally shot near the Kremlin days before a major opposition rally. Nemtsov was walking on Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge with a Ukrainian woman at around 11:40 p.m. Friday, according to Russian police. An unidentified gunman in a white car fired Nemtsov four times in the back. The vehicle fled the scene after the shooting, the BBC reported. Nemtsov was pronounced dead at the scene. In a recent interview, Nemtsov said he feared that Putin would send people to kill him because of his opposition to Putin’s aggression in Ukraine. Putin condemned the murder of Nemtsov and ordered an investigation. The Russian president said that the murder could have been a contract killing or a “provocation” before the anti-government protest on Sunday.
