One quake was large enough to be felt in neighboring areas. Fracking in Poland Township, Ohio was halted two days after the area was hit with a magnitude-3 earthquake along a hidden fault in rock which was deep beneath a natural gas well in the Utica Shale, according to research published in the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America. The study's authors said the magnitude-3 quake was "one the largest earthquakes ever induced by hydraulic fracturing in the United States." An improvised explosive device went off at approximately 10:45 a.m. according to Amy Sanders, a FBI Denver representative. The explosion happened at 603 El Paso St., according to a Colorado Spring Police spokesperson, Catherine Buckley. A gasoline can was placed next to the explosive device, however, the contents of the can did not ignite upon explosion, Buckley said. People in a nearby business heard a boom and went outside. A Kentucky police officer is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach inside an elevator on Friday. Video from the scene shows officer Darryl Jouett, a 25-year veteran of the Erlanger, Ky., police department, entering an elevator in Cincinnati with his wife, who was not identified. Jouett, who was off-duty and not in uniform, is seen talking to his wife and holding a box in one hand while apparently trying to adjust his pants or shirt. At one point, Jouett pulls out his police-issued .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun, looks at it then attempts to put it back into his holster. New orders for U.S. factory goods fell for a fourth straight month in November, pointing to a slowdown in manufacturing activity and overall economic growth. The Commerce Department said on Tuesday new orders for manufactured goods dropped 0.7 percent after an unrevised 0.7 percent fall in October. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast new orders received by factories falling 0.5 percent. Manufacturing is cooling after robust growth in the third quarter, in part because of a sluggish global economy.
