WATCH: the CNN report that China doesn't want you to see

(CNN) The Chinese government pulled the plug on CNN's feed inside their country when AC360 aired David McKenzie's report on the crackdown on Christians in Eastern China. Christian leaders there are facing the worst persecution in decades. It features exclusive video of police clashing with church members. Christians in eastern China scramble to save symbol of their faith Wenzhou, China (CNN) -- At a gray church on the outskirts of Wenzhou in eastern China, Christians from across the county keep a nervous watch. Some stand behind the iron gate; others sit just inside the church door. For more than two months they've waited, preparing themselves to protect the cross on top of their church. "If I have to, I am going to hold it in my arms and protect it," one elderly man says. "They have no right to tear it down, that is why we have to defend our church." Like many here, it's too risky for him to give his name. Wenzhou is known as the "Jerusalem of...

A Path Of Hurricane Odile's Destruction, Seen Through Instagram

Hurricane Odile came ashore over Cabo San Lucas on Sunday night as the strongest storm on record to strike the Baja Peninsula. The storm was a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale when it made landfall, and it's becoming increasingly clear that Cabo, a popular tourist destination, sustained major damage. As daylight set in on Monday, images emerged that showed the scope of the destruction, particularly at coastal resorts, which experienced the full force of the wind as well as the towering waves. The storm tied with Hurricane Oliva of 1967 as the strongest storm to strike the Baja Peninsula. http://on.mash.to/1qHmcyy http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

Medical Experts Warns Ebola Virus May already be Airborne

It’s feasible that the U.S. government is not being forthcoming with the American people about how easily the Ebola virus can be contracted and whether it’s an airborne virus, according to medical expert Dr. Jane Orient, who appeared Monday on Newsmax TV's "America’s Forum." Back in 2012 Canadian scientists have shown that the deadliest form of the ebola virus could be transmitted by air between species. In experiments, they demonstrated that the virus was transmitted from pigs to monkeys without any direct contact between them. The researchers say they believe that limited airborne transmission might be contributing to the spread of the disease in some parts of Africa. Fukushima News 9/15/14: Fukushima Plutonium Suspected In Pacific Ocean Food Chain

Major road in Fukushima open for general traffic Nuclear & Energy Sep. 14, 2014 - Updated 21:38 UTC-4 Authorities have lifted a traffic restriction on a major road near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. The entire stretch of the No. 6 national highway along the Pacific coast is now open to all four-wheeled vehicles. Since the March 2011 nuclear disaster, the government has designated local areas with high radiation levels as no-entry zones. Traffic on the 14-kilometer section of the road that runs through Namie and Tomioka towns had been closed, except to vehicles with special permission. The restriction was lifted on midnight Sunday, after decontamination and repair work was completed. Motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians are still barred from travelling on the stretch of road. Motorists are also not allowed to get out of their vehicles. Brace Yourself For More 9.0 Megaquakes In The Pacific

No one should be surprised if a magnitude-9 megaquake erupts off America's West Coast — or anywhere else around the Pacific Ocean's Ring of Fire, for that matter. That's the upshot of a study in October's issue of the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America : Researchers say that computer models of future seismic activity, plus a check of past activity going back thousand of years, suggest most of the Pacific's earthquake zones are capable of generating shocks at least as strong as magnitude 9 every 10,000 years on average. http://nbcnews.to/1tZ53Ob http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

David Pogue on why consumers care so much about net neutrality

Net neutrality is the idea that all Internet content should be treated equally in how it’s delivered to consumers -- a concept that is being debated at the Federal Communications Commission. Hari Sreenivasan sits down with David Pogue of Yahoo Tech to discuss the FCC’s proposal to create “fast” and “slow” traffic lanes on the web, and why the issue has struck a chord with the public. FBI's 'Facial Recognition Program' Hits Full Operational Capability!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Next Generation Identification System, a biometric database reliant on tens of millions of facial-recognition records, is now fully operational, the agency announced Monday. The NGI system, after three years of development, is billed by the FBI as a new breakthrough for criminal identification and data-sharing between law enforcement agencies. "This effort is a significant step forward for the criminal justice community in utilizing biometrics as an investigative enabler," the FBI said in a statement. The NGI database contains over 100 million individual records that link a person’s fingerprints, palm prints, iris scans and facial-recognition data with personal information like their home address, age, legal status and other potentially compromising details. Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the NGI is the facial-recognition information, which civil liberties advocates have said for years is among the most se...

Mystery Airstrikes Target 'Libya Dawn Alliance' Ammunition Warehouses!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza CAIRO: Commanders and a spokesman for Libya's Islamist-allied militias say four airstrikes by unidentified parties hit a western town near the capital Tripoli, killing one person and wounding five. Mohammad al-Gharyani, spokesman for the Libya Dawn alliance, said Monday that the airstrikes targeted Gharyan, 50 miles south of Tripoli. He said militiamen told residents to leave targeted areas. A militia commander said the strikes targeted Libya Dawn ammunition warehouses and were aimed at helping rival militias return to Tripoli. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press. U.S. officials have said similar airstrikes in the past were carried out by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Obama will outline his plans Tuesday during a visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, sources told the Journal. Why Facebook Is Deleting Drag Queen Profile Pages

Trannyshack founder and drag queen Heklina woke up this morning to discover her Facebook profile page had been completely erased from existence. Facebook sent her a personal message last Thursday that asked her to revert to her birth name. She says she tried to comply with that request by keeping her drag name and then adding her last name, Grygelko. However, her entire profile is now gone. Facebook’s real names policy page states, “We require everyone to provide their real names, so you always know who you’re connecting with. This helps keep our community safe.” In response, the drag queen community has launched a social media campaign, using the hashtag #mynameis on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to rally others and draw attention to the issue. Heklina and about 100 other queens plan to carry through with the protest at Facebook headquarters Tuesday. http://bit.ly/1Dc0tTg http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

The FCC Has Received More Than 3 Million Comments Concerning Net Neutrality

The FCC has received more than 3 million comments concerning the current net neutrality notice of proposed rulemaking. That figure is dramatically higher than the previously reported 1.5 million figure that was released last week. The massive jump comes from the FCC chewing through a deluge of comments that were filed last week as part of a public campaign that saw large websites ask their users to speak up on net neutrality. The FCC created a new way for groups to submit bulk comments in the face of the effort, to better handle the quantity of submissions it was receiving. http://bit.ly/1q8GpH3 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

Ballot Buying Billionaires

What would you buy if you had all the money in the world? A big house, a fast car, all the usual things? Well a new study out of Brookings Institution gives us an inside look at the wishlist of the RICHEST people in this country. You might be surprised to learn that what THEY’RE trying to buy, YOU might already have for sale. By now, you’re probably familiar with our segment, “You get what you vote for.” Every once in a while, we take a few moments and point out a politician’s blunders. It seems like easy prey. And look, we’re not the first to do this. Political cartoons literally date back hundreds of years. Leonardo da Vinci is credited with some of the earliest political caricatures, while here in the States, Benjamin Franklin was the first to mock a political idea with a cartoon. So while it may be easy to point a finger at Washington and blame them for all of America’s problems, the voters are also very much responsible, especially in the case of incumbent lawmakers. A Scottish 'Yes' Also Means Exit From EU, NATO

If Scottish voters this week say Yes to independence, not only will they tear up the map of Great Britain, they'll shake the twin pillars of Western Europe's postwar prosperity and security — the European Union and the U.S.-led NATO defense alliance. In breaking away from the rest of the United Kingdom, Scotland would automatically find itself outside both the EU and NATO, and have to reapply to join both, officials from those Brussels-based organizations have stressed. For the EU especially, Scottish re-entry could be a long and arduous process, with other countries dead set against letting the Scots retain the privileges awarded Britain: the so-called opt-outs from being required to use the euro single currency and to join the multination Schengen zone where internal border controls have been scrapped. http://on.mash.to/1wwWKxY http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

Iran Rejects Global Strategy Against Extremists

Diplomats from around the world sought a global strategy to fight Islamic State extremists Monday, while Iran ruled out working with any international coalition and rejected American requests for cooperation against the militants. Neither Iran nor Syria, which together share most of Iraq's borders, was invited to the international conference in Paris, which opened as a pair of French reconnaissance jets took off over Iraqi skies. With memories of the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq still fresh, the U.S. has so far been alone in carrying out airstrikes and no country has offered ground troops. http://apne.ws/1wwWI9i http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

International Monitors Shelled In Eastern Ukraine

A six-person international monitoring team came under shelling attack twice in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk on Sunday despite a ceasefire between government forces and pro-Russian separatists, a spokesman for the group said on Monday. The incident, in which two marked vehicles of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe were badly damaged, highlighted the fragility of the truce struck this month in a conflict that has killed more than 3,000 people. But government forces then suffered serious losses east of Donetsk and in the south-east in a development Kiev has ascribed to direct intervention by Russia in support of the rebels. http://bit.ly/Xq9E1M http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

Gulf of Alaska Is Unusually Warm, 'Weird Fish Are Showing Up'

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza Something odd is happening in Northern Pacific waters: They're heating up. In fact, it hasn't been this warm in parts of the Gulf of Alaska for this long since researchers began tracking surface water temperatures in the 1980s, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The warming began last year in the Gulf of Alaska and has since been dubbed "The Blob" by Nick Bond, of the Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean. Temperatures have been as high as about 5 degrees Fahrenheit (3 Celsius) above average. Normally storms and winds roll through to cool off the surface of the Northern Pacific, but a weather pattern popped up for a few months in winter 2013 that inhibited those storms from developing, said Nate Mantua, a NOAA research scientist. Then, from October 2013 through January, the weather pattern came back as a ridge of high pressure (the same one connected to the California drought). All of that made ...
