Street Fighting Rages In Syrian Town As Islamic State Moves In

Residents and fighters said Street fighting raged between Kurdish defenders and Islamic State militants who advanced into Kobani on Monday after subjecting the Syrian border town to an assault lasting almost three weeks. Islamic State had earlier raised its black flag over a building in the outskirts and forced thousands more of Kobani's mainly Kurdish inhabitants to flee for their lives across the nearby border into Turkey. The head of the Kurdish forces defending the town said late on Monday that Islamic State forces were 300 meters inside Kobani's eastern district and were shelling the remaining neighborhoods. Islamic State wants to take Kobani to consolidate a dramatic sweep across northern Iraq and Syria, in the name of an absolutist version of Sunni Islam, that has sent shockwaves through the Middle East. http://bit.ly/1vKS4k0 http://bit.ly/1fJ5yqZ #News

Mexican Army Disarms Police In Missing-students City

Mexican federal forces disarmed a southern city's entire police corps and took over security Monday after officers were accused of colluding with a gang in violence that left 43 students missing. The deployment in Iguala, 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Mexico City, came after President Enrique Pena Nieto pledged justice in a case that has challenged his vow to tame crime in his country. Authorities discovered a mass grave on a hill outside Iguala over the weekend containing 28 unidentified bodies, raising fears over the fate of the students, who were last seen in the city more than a week ago. Authorities say it will take at least two weeks to get the results of DNA tests to identify the corpses. Some bodies were in pieces after being set on fire in a bed of branches. Witnesses say several students, who are from a teacher training college known as a hotbed of radical protests, were whisked away in police vehicles on the night of September 26 after officers shot at buses the y...

DHS to Scan Civilian Agency Systems Without Prior Authorization!

http://bit.ly/1zfNXza After failing to identify the potentially disastrous Heartbleed bug, the United States Department of Homeland Security has successfully lobbied to have the ability to conduct “regular and proactive scans” of civilian agency systems. Beth Cobert, the deputy director for management at the White House Office of Management and Budget, wrote on Friday that “growing cybersecurity threats,” including this year’s Heartbleed bug, have prompted the federal government to embrace better tactics aimed at ensuring the computer networks used by agencies stays secure. “In a rapidly changing technological environment, we must have robust procedures, policies and systems in place to protect our nation’s most sensitive information,” Cobert wrote in a blog post first published last week by the White House. To accomplish as much, her office has announced the establishment of a new process that subjects civilian agency networks to greater scrutiny. http://bit.ly/1vIK7fv #News
